All products are authentic brand names and will include a product information insert in English.Medical Information:Epanutin capsules, oral suspension and infatabs all contain the active ingredient phenytoin, which is a type of medicine called an anticonvulsant. (NB. Phenytoin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Phenytoin is used to treat epilepsy and works by stabilising electrical activity in the brain. The brain and nerves are made up of many nerve cells that communicate with each other through electrical signals. These signals must be carefully regulated for the brain and nerves to function properly. When abnormally rapid and repetitive electrical signals are released in the brain, the brain becomes over-stimulated and normal function is disturbed. This can result in fits or seizures.Phenytoin prevents seizures by preventing the excessive electrical activity in the brain. It is thought to achieve this by preventing sodium from entering nerve cells when they begin to fire rapid and repetitive electrical signals. A build up of sodium in the nerve cells is necessary for the electrical signal to build up and be passed on to other nerve cells. As phenytoin prevents this, it helps stabilise the electrical activity in the brain. As phenytoin stabilises electrical nerve activity, it can also be used to treat a condition called trigeminal neuralgia, in which the facial nerves spontaneously send messages of pain to the brain. Phenytoin prevents the nerve signals being sent inappropriately and relieves the pain of this condition. Phenytoin should only be used as second line therapy for this condition, in people who cannot take another medicine called carbamazepine, or for people in whom carbamazepine is ineffective. What is it used for? <>Epilepsy. Phenytoin is used to treat generalised tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal epilepsy) and partial seizures.Seizures associated with brain surgery or head injury.Severe pain in the lips, gums, cheek, chin or eye caused by a disorder of the nerves in the face (trigeminal neuralgia). This medication is a retinoid used in the treatment of severe psoriasis and other skin disorders in adults. How to use Acitretin OralRead the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using acitretin and each time you get a refill. It may be used with other medicines to treat ulcers of the small intestines. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the penicillin group of drugs. It fights bacteria in your body.Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as ear infections, bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and E. coli or salmonella infection. Amoxicillin is also sometimes used together with another antibiotic called clarithromycin (Biaxin) to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is sometimes used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole (Prevacid).Amoxicillin, an antibiotic, is used to treat a wide variety of infections, including: gonorrhea, middle ear infections, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the genital and urinary tract. In combination with other drugs such as Prilosec, Prevacid, and/or Biaxin, it is also used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria (ulcers in the wall of the small intestine near the exit from the stomach). Furosemide, a 'water pill,' is used to reduce the swelling and fluid retention caused by various medical problems, including heart or liver disease. It is also used to treat high blood pressure. It causes the kidneys to get rid of unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine.Furosemide comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth. It usually is taken once a day in the morning or twice a day in the morning and afternoon. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take furosemide exactly as directed. Your acne may get worse during the first few weeks of treatment, and it may take 8-12 weeks or longer before you feel the full benefit of adapalene. Pimples can take 6-8 weeks to form under the skin, and during the first weeks of your treatment, adapalene may bring these pimples to the skin surface. Continue to use adapalene even if your acne worsens or you do not see much improvement at first. Do not stop using adapalene without talking to your doctor.Do not apply adapalene to skin that is sunburned, broken, or covered with eczema (a skin disease). If you have any of these conditions, do not apply adapalene until your skin has healed.Be careful not to get adapalene in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you do get adapalene in your eyes, wash them with plenty of water and call your doctor. Your eyes may become irritated, swollen, or infected. To use the cream, gel, or solution, follow these steps: Gently wash the affected skin with a mild soap or soapless cleanser and pat dry with a soft towel. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleansers, and do not scrub your skin vigorously. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a gentle cleanser. If you are using the gel or cream, use your fingers to spread a thin film of medication over the affected area. If you are using a pledget, remove it from the foil pouch and gently wipe the entire affected area. If you are using the glass bottle of solution, apply a thin layer to the affected area using the applicator provided. You may feel a slight warmth or stinging in the place where you applied adapalene. This feeling is normal and should go away by itself in a short time. If you used a pledget, throw it away after use. Glipizide is used to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood), particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone. Glipizide lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin and helping the body use insulin efficiently. The pancreas must be capable of producing insulin for this medication to work. Glipizide is not used to treat type 1 diabetes (condition in which the body does not produce insulin and therefore cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood).Glipizide comes in tablets to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day, 30 minutes before breakfast. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Corticosteroids are hormones produced naturally by the adrenal glands which have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses.Prednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid that is used to decrease inflammation in various different diseases and conditions. Corticosteroids are often simply called steroids, but it should be noted that they are very different from another group of steroids, called anabolic steroids, which have gained notoriety because of their abuse by some athletes and body builders.Prednisolone works by acting within cells to prevent the release of certain chemicals that are important in the immune system. These chemicals are normally involved in producing immune and allergic responses, resulting in inflammation. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in a particular area, inflammation is reduced. This can help control a wide number of disease states, characterised by excessive inflammation. They include severe allergic reactions, inflammation of the lungs in asthma and inflammation of the joints in arthritis. In high doses, prednisolone also decreases the numbers of white blood cells circulating in the blood. This, along with the decrease in inflammatory chemicals, can prevent the rejection of organ transplants, as it prevents the body from attacking foreign tissue. It is useful for the treatment of certain types of leukaemia, where there is an abnormally large production of certain white blood cells. It is also used to treat some diseases which are caused by the immune system attacking itself (auto immune diseases).Prednisolone can also be given to people whose adrenal glands are not producing enough natural corticosteroids (adrenal insufficiency).Prednisolone can be given orally or as an injection for all these purposes. It is also given by injection directly into a joint to relieve inflammation and pain and increase mobility of the affected joint, in conditions such as arthritis and tennis elbow.Prednisolone is used in much higher doses than the levels of corticosteroids produced naturally by the body, and as such, the usual actions of corticosteroids become exaggerated and may be observed as side effects of this medicine. What is it used for? A form of cancer of the bone marrow (myeloma)Acute and lymphatic leukaemia Cancer of the lymph nodes (lymphoma) Diseases caused by the body's immune system attacking itself (autoimmune diseases such rheumatoid arthritis)Inflammatory disorders e.g. asthma, arthritis, severe allergic reactions, Crohn's disease, systemic lupus erythematosusInsufficient production of natural steroid hormones by the adrenal glands (adrenal insufficiency)Suppression of the immune system in organ transplantation Simvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. Oral contraceptives (birth-control pills) are used to prevent pregnancy. Estrogen and progestin are two female sex hormones. Combinations of estrogen and progestin work by preventing ovulation (the release of eggs from the ovaries). They also change the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent pregnancy from developing and change the mucus at the cervix (opening of the uterus) to prevent sperm (male reproductive cells) from entering. Oral contraceptives are a very effective method of birth control, but they do not prevent the spread of human immunodeficiency virus [HIV, the virus that causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)] and other sexually transmitted diseases. Some brands of oral contraceptives are also used to treat acne in certain patients. Oral contraceptives treat acne by decreasing the amounts of certain natural substances that can cause acne. One type of oral contraceptives (Yaz) is also used to relieve the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (physical and emotional symptoms that occur before the menstrual period each month) in women who have chosen to use an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy.Oral contraceptives come in packets of 21, 28, or 91 tablets to take by mouth once a day, every day or almost every day of a regular cycle.
